Release Notes:

There are two big stories behind 50 Cent's third album, Curtis (as in real name:Curtis Jackson). First, there's the promise he made that he would outsell KanyeWest -- who was releasing his Graduation album the same day as Curtis -- or hewould retire. Second, there's the album's original title, Before I SelfDestruct, a fitting caption to the moody close-up of 50 on the cover, whichlooks much more troubled, concerned, and intense than anything on the albumsounds. Referencing self-destruction would have been a gross misrepresentationof a full-length that repeatedly employs the tried-and-true 50 Cent formula --heavy hooks, macho charisma, a dash of controversy, and some sly cleverness --and features a collaboration with the ultra-suave Robin Thicke smack dab in themiddle. The perfect soundtrack if 50's G-Unit empire begins opening cocktaillounges, "Follow My Lead" with lounge lizard Thicke is pure polish, a slowfinger-snapper dressed up in an expensive suit that feels extremely comfortable.Equally at ease is the Timbaland production "Ayo Technology" featuring JustinTimberlake, an obvious single that's "been there, done that" for all partiesinvolved. This doesn't mean it's bland, just safe. Same goes for both "AmusementPark," which is as empty-headed and hook-filled as "Candy Shop," and "I'll StillKill" with Akon, which offers no surprises, just another melody that refuses toleave the head. Also from the high-profile department and pushing a littleharder is the emotional "All of Me," which finds Mary J. Blige and 50 displayingsome passionate chemistry, and "Fire," which succeeds not because of theunderwhelming Dr. Dre production or the severe chorus from Pussycat Doll NicoleScherzinger, but because of 50's inspired verses, one of which gives up "You canhate this/But face it/B.I.G. and 2Pac/Just ain't around." "Get a tan?/I'malready black/Get rich?/I'm already that" comes from "I Get Money," a classic "Irun New York" swagger-fest in the G-Unit style. The third killer verse on thefull-length is much too fowl to repeat and comes from Eminem, who also producesthe great "Peep Show" and makes 50 sound hungry for a change. As far as Drerapping on "Come & Go," he's got two lines, and as far as controversy, "FullyLoaded Clip" flippantly drops some big names for the sake of mischief while "ManDown" is censored no matter what version you buy, since Interscope isn't so keenon cop-killing lyrics. In the end, Curtis is entertaining but only impressive inthat 50 can run in place and still be on top.
The bonus track dupes 50_Cent-Hustlers_Ambition-Promo_CDS-2005 andVA-Get_Rich_Or_Die_Tryin-OST-2005, among others. Enjoy the plethora of scans weincluded. Track 3 is censored intentionally. Also for the other group, track 2looks like it's missing "Go Off" from the title. We won't proper such a greatgroup for a silly reason like that though...
Since this must be pred internally, we used Lame 3.98b5. Normally the bitrateswould be higher versus a 3.97 encode as demonstrated from our other 3.98encodes, but the original release of this album was normalized to slightlyhigher levels than this copy, causing the other release for the most part tohave higher bitrates than this. Different source is probably the cause. In anycase, we strongly urge the rules changed to allow Lame 3.98 when the finalversion hits. Higher bitrates (ala 3.90 rates), and the not-so-rare distortionthat came with 3.97 for the most part is fixed. Consider it 3.90 with --vbr-newspeeds, with better high end.
